Who could have predicted such a wet day for our Show in 2023? The weather gods were not with us as torrential rain fell on our wonderful parkland setting at Newby Hall for most of the day. You might think this meant the show was a disaster – far from it, our stalwart supporters, exhibitors and volunteer helpers turned out in support of the Committee’s year long preparations to hold the show.
Despite such a wet day, we still managed to put on a show to be very proud of and the Shetland Grand National gave us all a hilarious hour of fun with their sheer determination to carry on, whatever the weather!
And so we turn to our forthcoming 109th show to be held on Sunday 28 th July. Everyone is welcome and we really hope that as one of the biggest community events held in our local area, as many people will come along and support us as visitors, exhibitors and competitors – there really is something for everyone and our main objective is that people com along, have fun with their families, meet neighbours and friends and perhaps learn something new about our beautiful farming and countryside landscapes and maybe even win a rosette or trophy in one of the many classes on offer. We remain very grateful to The Compton family and Stuart Gill for their continuing support in allowing access to the parkland and the gardens at Newby Hall on show day.
You will understand that after a very wet show last year and numbers attending inevitably down but the cost of staging the show still in the region of £20K, our volunteer Committee will rely on excellent support in 2024 from our lovely visitors, sponsors and exhibitors to help us to maintain the show we are all so proud of. Thank you to all who supported our fundraising Bonkers Bingo evening at the end of last year which helped to plug some of the gap in our finances.
We hope you will find all the information you need on the website or on our Facebook page, but we are always happy to help if you need to get in touch by e-mail or phone.
Please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to help.
